HORROR HOURS
Privacy Policy
Horror Hours is a horror audio app built for the dark. This page explains exactly what it collects, why, and what it never does.
What the app collects
| Data | Why | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| A random device identifier, created on first launch | So your list, listening progress and subscription work without an account | Our servers |
| Listening progress and your saved list | To resume where you left off and sync to a new phone if you sign in | Our servers |
| Subscription status | To unlock the catalogue you paid for. We receive this from Apple; we never see your payment details | Apple → our servers |
| Email address and Apple user id — only if you choose to sign in with Apple | To find your account on another device and to answer support requests | Our servers |
| Your answers to the optional welcome questions: gender, age range, the kinds of horror you like and when you listen. Your first name, if you give one, stays on your phone | To pick your first stories (worked out on your phone) and to understand who listens, so we know what to add | Our servers and PostHog, an analytics provider |
| Basic usage events (which screens open, which episodes play, paywall views) | To understand what people listen to and improve the catalogue | Our servers and PostHog, an analytics provider |
| That you installed and opened the app; six milestones (finished the intro, played a story, listened for ten minutes, saw the subscription offer, started a trial, subscribed); and whether a trial came from someone whose welcome answers say they are a big horror fan who listens at night | To measure our own ads on Meta and Google, so we know which ones bring in listeners | Meta and Google, as app events with no name, email or advertising identifier attached. Apple's ad attribution also reports a summary to them without identifying you |
What the app never does
- No ads in the app. No advertising identifier (IDFA), no tracking you across other companies' apps or websites, and no data brokers.
- No selling or renting of personal data. Ever.
- No access to your contacts, photos, location, microphone, or health data.
- No account is required. You can use every part of the app anonymously.
Sign in with Apple
Signing in is optional and links your device to an account so your list and progress follow you. Apple may share a private relay address instead of your real email; that is fine with us. You can unlink at any time: Me → Account → Delete account removes your email and Apple id from our servers immediately. Your anonymous device record and any active subscription remain so nothing you paid for disappears.
Subscriptions
Purchases are handled by Apple through the App Store. Apple sends us signed notifications when a subscription starts, renews, lapses or is refunded, and that is the only way your entitlement is ever changed. Manage or cancel in your Apple ID settings.
Children
Horror Hours is horror fiction rated 17+. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.
Where data lives and how long
Our servers run in the United States. Audio is delivered from a content network; downloads you make stay on your device. Device records and progress are kept while the app is in use and deleted on request. Subscription records are kept as long as required for accounting.
Your rights
Ask us to export or delete everything tied to your device or account by emailing contact@cloutopstechnologies.com with the User ID shown at the bottom of the Me tab. We answer within 30 days. Residents of California, the EU and the UK have the rights their local law grants; we honour them for everyone.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will show a notice in the app before the change takes effect. The date at the top is the version you are reading.
